In recent weeks, my home was repeatedly terrorized by an unwelcome visitor: a persistent (and enormous) iguana I nicknamed “El Diablo.”
Iguanas are an invasive species to South Florida. They are destructive and crowd out other wildlife, and this one made daily “deposits” in my pool. My wife and I were not happy.
Over a span of several weeks, I wrote a number of Wealthy Retirement and Oxford Income Letter articles while sitting on my back patio with a loaded air rifle, just in case El Diablo dared to show his face again.
Then, one day, I was totally in the groove, the words were flowing from my fingers like Edgar Allan Poe… and I heard my wife scream that the iguana was right up against our screen door. I’ll spare you the gruesome details, but let’s just say El Diablo doesn’t bother us anymore.
This actually wasn’t the first time I had to defend my turf against a reptile intruder. A couple of years ago, I was forced out of bed at midnight to sprint to our laundry room and dispose of a potentially venomous snake.
In a 2023 episode of State of the Market, I recounted the entire saga – and explained how it can teach investors a few valuable lessons.
To commemorate my victory over El Diablo, I’m sharing the episode with you again today.
